Why Him? Review

Why Him? is the first movie that inspired me into reviewing movies, not only because of its comedy but for the fact that it pitches conservative parents against their liberal and free-spirited children
which is the order of the day in today's society.
Although, the movie was released in 2016, I choose to review for the benefit of those who haven't seen it.

Why Him? is about what happens when Stephanie a Stanford student introduces Laird, her Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend to her family. Laird who is very exited to see his future in-laws (Ned, Barb and Scotty Fleming), shows off a new back tattoo of the Flemings' family that he got and gives the family a tour of his house. Laird being uncouth and socially awkward used various curse words and complimented Barb's looks in a sexual tone in front of Ned.

All this didn't go down well with Ned and was driving him nuts, being a cultured, overprotective but loving dad he talks to Stephanie about Laird's weird behaviours, but she pleads with him to give him a chance. Laird later invites Ned to go for a walk in the large compound of his house and asks Ned for his blessing to propose to Stephanie. For the dislike Ned had towards him, he was quick to say no, Laird was shocked to be declined since he was confident Ned would say yes. Laird promises to win him over.

The family being old-fashioned spent the days at Laird’s house as an introduction to the new world. The mansion being eco-friendly and technology driven was paperless, which means that Ned must use an electronic Japanese toilet basin without toilet tissue and learn how to use smart devices. The meals also being served by the celebrity chef were nauseating dishes like edible soil, plankton foam, edible paper and other odd meals.

Ned's printing company was going bankrupt, a fact that he’s trying to keep hidden from his wife, but as the family gathers in Laird's living room for a pre-Christmas party, Laird reveals that he bought Ned's struggling company as a gift to remove all his debts. Instead of expressing gratitude, Ned considered it an affront on his personality, he therefore punches Laird in the face and they begin to fight. Stephanie and Barb were both angry at the men's behavior, and the family leaves Laird's home.

On Christmas Day, the Flemings back at their home are celebrating in a moody tone without Stephanie. Only to be surprised to see Laird's helicopter arriving with Stephanie. She is still feasibly angry at both her father and her boyfriend for their childish behaviour and is refusing to talk to either of them. Both men apologised to each other and talked, so Laird gets Ned's blessing to propose to Stephanie.
Yet another surprise for Laird, Stephanie declines the proposal but said she wants to continue dating Laird because she's just not ready to get married. With the party now bubbling, father and son in persons of Ned and Scotty approached Laird for a cool business idea, since they are now one big family and are part of the same company now. Scotty pitched that they should sell the same toilets Laird has in his home since they would be novel and very profitable.
Laird bought into the idea, thereafter the 3 men turned the printing company into a successful toilet factory. Stephanie used her connections to link the Fleming-Mayhew company with a new foundation and together they helped third-world countries with their sewage projects.
At long last, Ned referred to Laird as "son", so Laird got what he always wanted, to be part of a family and got his image in the family tattoo.
