So far, Reign has been interesting but the main reason for my interest in this particular series is the fact that there is so much
suspense from the pilot episode (not all series are like that).
Basically, the first episode introduced us to a fifteen-year-old named Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland who has been living in a convent in France since age nine in anticipation of her marriage to Francis, (a hot blondie) heir to the throne of France. After a failed attempt to poison her in the convent (Mary knew something was up when she saw one of the sisters acting weird and then covered in blood. She later got to know that the lady was her taster and had had tasters right from when she started eating), Mary is brought to French court for safety, where she is reunited with her Scottish handmaidens and childhood companions Greer, Kenna, Lola and Aylee. Mary discovers that her marriage isn't assured, due to ever-changing politics and Francis's doubts over the wisdom of a Scottish alliance. Mary also catches the eye of Francis's half-brother Bash(who is also a hottie by the way), son of King Henry with his mistress, Diane de Poitiers. When Queen Catherine's adviser, Nostradamus (Rossif Sutherland), has a vision that Francis's impending marriage will cost him his life, she arranges for Mary to be drugged and raped by Colin (Ashley Charles), a Scot betrothed to Lola. Mary is warned ahead of time by an unknown figure to not drink the drugged wine, and so manages to stop Colin. Before she can question him, Colin is executed by order of the King and Queen. Mary started suspecting that the queen was responsible for that action since Colin told Lola that he was forced to do so by someone powerful in the kingdom. I particularly felt bad for Lola because she excitedly brought Colin to the Queen. Anyway, the queen had something to do with it by the way.
In the second episode, we are introduced to Francis's younger brother, Charles (Peter DaCunha) he is so charming :), who is to be betrothed to Madeleine (Vanessa Carter), a French noblewoman. Madeleine arrives by ship, escorted by an unexpected English envoy led by Simon Westbrook (Luke Roberts), who are welcomed at court for helping Madeleine arrive safely. Mary learns from Charles that a girl named Clarissa (Katie Boland) lives in the secret passageways of the castle; Mary suspects she's the one who warned her of the rape plot. When Mary avoids what appears to be another poisoning attempt, she asks Clarissa for information. Mary is led to Simon, learning that he faked the poisoning to scare her out of the alliance with France(First of all, I knew the poison was fake, infact there was no poison to begin). Simon points out that Mary already has enemies in French court and will not be safe, but Mary declares her intent to stay and stand against the English. Mary suspects Catherine as responsible for the various plots and shares this with Francis, who believes her and warns his mother to leave Mary alone. Mary and Francis are for now determined to be a united front against their enemies. So the king, is also having an affair with one of Mary's friends. She doesnt care if she marries someone who isnt heir to the throne because she is not a virgin. Apparently, he told the king that someone else is interested in her and later that night, the king brings him to her room and performs so quick 'wedding' thingy and later kissed her passionately and gave her a choice either him or the other man. I am also beginning to suspect that Mary's 4 friends may turn their backs on her for some reasons.
I can wait to share the next episodes with you, please like, comment and subscribe to the blog for more movie analysis.
Thanks!
